Can’t Sleep.. New Design

May25

Every month or so I start to get an itch to change the look and feel of this site. I start by casually perusing the known WordPress theme sites. As a person with little artistic capabilities, this entertains me while I start chewing over whatever thought has started me down this road in the first place.

I have a thing for minimalist themes, the cluttered, hard to navigate, white-space wanting designs that most people design and use simply do not appeal to me. Its just too much, and when it gets to a point when the design overpowers the text — that is a problem.

Normally I tend toward white and grey designs. Maybe its the mac user in me, but these types of colors have always been a favorite. Classic, clean and unobtrusive. Essentials for theme appreciation on my part.

It was with great glee, yes I actually fit that word in! That I stumbled across this chocolate drenched minimal theme with bright yellows and blues popping out at all the right places. The theme is soothing to the eye and easy to read. Two nice elements that more traditional minimalist themes can have trouble pulling off without undue eye strain!

So enjoy this theme and let me know what you think! As for me, its off to bed I go. Take care.

LadybugBlogs.com Concept

Many of you know that my wife and I are in the process of adopting a child from China. One thing we quickly learning about the adoption community was its almost global embracing of digital journaling.

When most people think of an adoption, they have vision of fast celebrity adoptions. And while that may be the case in the private adoptions that most celebrities do, for the average user it is typically a multi-year process.

It stands to reason then that journal play in important role in the journey laid ahead of adoptive parents. To that end I have purchased the LadyBugBlogs.com domain and plan to begin development of a WordPress Mu based multi-user blogging system.

My idea is to provide a community blogging solution with features and themes tailored to the adoptive parents needs and desires. China and other Asian adoptions are focus group for LadybugBlogs.com.

The Ladybug in an important symbol in China adoptions, its incorporation into the blog domain name seemed only fitting.

One thing that I dig about the net is that there are always nooks and crannies to explore and new things to see. Viral videos, web based games, you name it — there is a plethora of crap to suck away your time.

And what I am finding every now and then is that I will run across something that is well establish but which I have to date ignored which suddenly captures my interest and become a part of my daily life — Flickr is one such site.

It all started when I found myself looking for an easy way for my friend Donna to upload her pictures and incorporate them into her site. Flickr + A convenient WordPress plugin made that process much easier and better organized.

When I started this site I decided to put some of my favorite photos into a photo gallery and again, Flickr was easy, and worked well. Throw in some birthdays, events and a vacation and Flickr became further ensconced on my life.

Part of my nature is to always try to answer the question — “Well this is really cool, but what other cool things can I do with it?” It didn’t take long before I was asking this question about Flickr. Thanks to their API, people are developing new ways of extending Flickr all the time which has been a lot of fun to explore what other people have do.

Aside from that, its fun to explore what other people are taking pictures of, there are some funky things out there. Sadly, my cat montage is not getting the rave reviews that I was sure it would.
