This weekend I partook in what has grown over the years into an epic event — “Cruise Night”
What is cruise night? Well its a throwback to a time long lost when people would drive up and down main street, America cruising in their rides.
For some reason it just seems right, its fun actually. Getting to watch vintage American steel slink along main street with their engines purring their seductive songs is enough to make an environmentalist forget the meaning of the word “hybrid-engine”.
Even my six year old son felt the hypnotic effects, just this morning he said he thought we should have a cool car. I of course totally agree, my wife however might be a harder sell.
So why not a picture of a car? Well there are plenty of those to enjoy on my flickr page, just click any photo to the left should it tickle your fancy.
I just love this photo, its a miracle that it turned out on my camera. The Majestic Theatre in Streator was an eyesore for years. A broken down shell of what it once had been. People talked of restoration, but it was more idle chatter than true possibility.
But on “Cruise Night” this old lady was open, playing Hairspray and Hollywood Nights. She shone in all her glory, restored and open, the upper balcony available (when was the last time you saw that in a theater?), and to me it was the cherry on top of the Sunday.
Sure the cars made me think of American Graffiti, but seeing the Majestic, I just felt like I was walking in a different time. And that was pretty cool if you ask me.
